Media professionals in Nigeria on Sunday commended the Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq for inspiring the girl child, reducing inequalities and giving women in the state a fair space in the decision-making process.

They also applauded the governor for making accountability his watchword.

Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq recently signed into law a bill that makes it mandatory to have at least 35 per cent women appointees in the State Executive Council and other classes of political appointments.

In a statement in Lagos, the professionals advised other governors in the country to learn from the governor of Kwara State.

The professionals congratulated Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq for the credible efforts to justify the mandate given to him by the good people of Kwara State as represented in his gender policy, institutional setup and the many physical improvements that are visible in all the local government areas.

The statement signed by the Chairman of the Nigerian Media Professionals Group, Mr Daniel Okeme applauded Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq for promoting women in leadership roles in the state, gingering the public service, encouraging a private sector driven economy, eliminating wasteful spending, and ensuring strict adherence to budget provision.

They praised the governor for opening up rural areas through the construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of roads.

The statement underscored electricity, infrastructure, human resources development, skill acquisition, healthcare and education.

The professionals listed a sound economic base, gender empowerment, wealth creation and poverty reduction as key areas where the governor performed creditably.

Specifically, the professionals applauded the governor for providing drinking water and electricity to rural areas, boosting agriculture and ensuring that peace and security prevail.

The statement also emphasised the good working relationship between the executive and the legislature, encouragement of foreign investments, women’s rights and gender equality.
